80ac19a507 libipa: histogram: Fix interQuantileMean() for small ranges
The interQuantileMean() is supposed to return a weighted mean value
between two quantiles. This works for fine histograms, but fails for
coarse histograms and small quantile ranges because the weight is always
taken from the lower border of the bin.

Fix that by rewriting the algorithm to calculate a lower and upper bound
for every (partial) bin that goes into the mean calculation and weight
the bins by the middle of these bounds.

8936e81e3f libipa: histogram: Fix quantile() calculation for fractional results
The calculation of the frac variable is based solely on integers and
therefore results in the fractional part being either 0 or 1.

In the original code from RaspberryPi this is mitigated by casting the
nominator to a double. This works for most cases, but fails when q is
very small because of the quantization introduced by item being an
integer.

Fix both issues by doing the full calculation in double and remove the
should_fail tag.

1045522af9 libcamera: ipa_manager: Remove singleton requirement
The IPAManager class implements a singleton pattern due to the need of
accessing the instance in a static member function. The function now
takes a pointer to a PipelineHandler, which we can use to access the
CameraManager, and from there, the IPAManager.

Add accessors to the internal API to expose the CameraManager from the
PipelineHandler, and the IPAManager from the CameraManager. This
requires allocating the IPAManager dynamically to avoid a loop in
includes. Use those accessors to replace the IPAManager singleton.

Update the IPA interface unit test to instantiate a CameraManager
instead of an IPAManager and ProcessManager, to reflect the new way that
the IPAManager is accessed.

5ed35fca68 libcamera: pipeline: Rename pipelines to a shorter name
The PipelineHandlerFactoryBase class has a name that is propagated to
the PipelineHandler instance it creates.

In present implementation, this name comes from the
REGISTER_PIPELINE_HANDLER registration macro. It corresponds to the
stringified name of the PipelineHandler derived class. Therefore,
PipelineHandler factories and instances names can be quite long such as
"PipelineHandlerRkISP1".

A libcamera user may have to explicitly refer to a PipelineHandler name
for configuration purpose: one usage of the name can be to define a
pipeline handlers match list and their priorities. It is desired, for
user convenience, to use a short name to designate a pipeline handler.
Reusing the short pipeline names already defined in the meson option
files is an existing and consistent way of naming pipelines.

This change adds an explicit name parameter to the
REGISTER_PIPELINE_HANDLER registration macro. That parameter is used to
define the name of a pipeline handler factory, instead of the current
pipeline handler class name.

Each pipeline registration is updated accordingly. The short name
assigned corresponds to the pipeline directory name in the source tree.
It is consistent with pipelines names used in meson.

Changing the pipeline name has an impact on the IPA modules: each module
defines a IPAModuleInfo structure. This structure has a pipelineName
member defining the pipeline handler name it shall match with.
Therefore, each internal IPA module definition has to be changed to have
its IPAModuleInfo pipelineName name updated with the short pipeline
handler name.

In addition to this pipelineName member, the IPAModuleInfo structure
also has a name member, associated to the IPA module name. Having
renamed the pipelines to a short name, the pipeline name and the IPA
module names of the IPAModuleInfo structure are the same: for in-tree
IPA, they correspond to the respective pipeline and IPA subdirectories
in the source tree. However the IPA name could be different, for
instance with a close source IPA implementation built out-of-tree. Thus,
it makes sense to keep the IPA name in that structure, as the 2
definitions may not always be redundant.

626172a16b libcamera: Drop file name from header comment blocks
Source files in libcamera start by a comment block header, which
includes the file name and a one-line description of the file contents.
While the latter is useful to get a quick overview of the file contents
at a glance, the former is mostly a source of inconvenience. The name in
the comments can easily get out of sync with the file name when files
are renamed, and copy & paste during development have often lead to
incorrect names being used to start with.

Readers of the source code are expected to know which file they're
looking it. Drop the file name from the header comment block.

The change was generated with the following script:

----------------------------------------

dirs="include/libcamera src test utils"

declare -rA patterns=(
	['c']=' \* '
	['cpp']=' \* '
	['h']=' \* '
	['py']='# '
	['sh']='# '
)

for ext in ${!patterns[@]} ; do
	files=$(for dir in $dirs ; do find $dir -name "*.${ext}" ; done)
	pattern=${patterns[${ext}]}

	for file in $files ; do
		name=$(basename ${file})
		sed -i "s/^\(${pattern}\)${name} - /\1/" "$file"
	done
done
----------------------------------------

This misses several files that are out of sync with the comment block
header. Those will be addressed separately and manually.

3335d5a504 libcamera: Drop emitter object pointer from signal arguments
Many signals used in internal and public APIs carry the emitter pointer
as a signal argument. This was done to allow slots connected to multiple
signal instances to differentiate between emitters. While starting from
a good intention of facilitating the implementation of slots, it turned
out to be a bad API design as the signal isn't meant to know what it
will be connected to, and thus shouldn't carry parameters that are
solely meant to support a use case specific to the connected slot.

These pointers turn out to be unused in all slots but one. In the only
case where it is needed, it can be obtained by wrapping the slot in a
lambda function when connecting the signal. Do so, and drop the emitter
pointer from all signals.

libcamera: IPAProxy, IPAManager: Switch to one-proxy-per-pipeline scheme

IPAProxy is changed in two major ways:
- Every pipeline has its own proxy, to support each pipeline's IPA
  interface
- IPAProxy implementations always encapsulate IPA modules, and switch
  internally for isolation or threaded

The IPAProxy registration mechanism is removed, as each pipeline will
have its own proxy, so the pipeline can pass the specialized class name
of the IPAProxy to the IPAManager for construction.

IPAManager is changed accordingly to support these changes:
- createIPA is a template function that takes an IPAProxy class, and
  always returns an IPAProxy
- IPAManager no longer decides on isolation, and simply creates an
  IPAProxy instance while passing the isolation flag

Consequently, the old IPAProxy classes (IPAProxyThread and
IPAProxyLinux) are removed. The IPAInterfaceTest is updated to use
the new IPAManager interface, and to construct a ProcessManager as no
single global instance is created anymore.

Implementations of IPA proxies use a registration mechanism to register

46d544345c libcamera: IPAManager: make IPAManager lifetime explicitly managed
If any ipa_context instances are destroyed after the IPAManager is
destroyed, then a segfault will occur, since the modules have been

Fix this by making the lifetime of the IPAManager explicit, and make the
CameraManager construct and deconstruct (automatically, via a unique
pointer) the IPAManager.

Also update the IPA interface test to do the construction and

f934fd1cb9 libcamera: Move IPA headers from include/ipa/ to include/libcamera/ipa/
The IPA headers are installed into $prefix/include/libcamera/ipa/, but
are located in the source tree in include/ipa/. This requires files
within libcamera to include them with

 #include <ipa/foo.h>

while a third party IPA would need to use

 #include <libcamera/ipa/foo.h>

Not only is this inconsistent, it can create issues later if IPA headers
need to include each other, as the first form of include directive
wouldn't be valid once the headers are installed.

Fix the problem by moving the IPA headers to include/libcamera/ipa/.

93e72b695e libcamera: Move internal headers to include/libcamera/internal/
The libcamera internal headers are located in src/libcamera/include/.
The directory is added to the compiler headers search path with a meson
include_directories() directive, and internal headers are included with
(e.g. for the internal semaphore.h header)

  #include "semaphore.h"

All was well, until libcxx decided to implement the C++20
synchronization library. The __threading_support header gained a

  #include <semaphore.h>

to include the pthread's semaphore support. As include_directories()
adds src/libcamera/include/ to the compiler search path with -I, the
internal semaphore.h is included instead of the pthread version.
Needless to say, the compiler isn't happy.

Three options have been considered to fix this issue:

- Use -iquote instead of -I. The -iquote option instructs gcc to only
  consider the header search path for headers included with the ""
  version. Meson unfortunately doesn't support this option.

- Rename the internal semaphore.h header. This was deemed to be the
  beginning of a long whack-a-mole game, where namespace clashes with
  system libraries would appear over time (possibly dependent on
  particular system configurations) and would need to be constantly
  fixed.

- Move the internal headers to another directory to create a unique
  namespace through path components. This causes lots of churn in all
  the existing source files through the all project.

The first option would be best, but isn't available to us due to missing
support in meson. Even if -iquote support was added, we would need to
fix the problem before a new version of meson containing the required
support would be released.

The third option is thus the only practical solution available. Bite the
bullet, and do it, moving headers to include/libcamera/internal/.

7a653369cb licenses: License all meson files under CC0-1.0
In an attempt to clarify the license terms of all files in the libcamera
project, the build system files deserve particular attention. While they
describe how the binaries are created, they are not themselves
transformed into any part of binary distributions of the software, and
thus don't influence the copyright on the binary packages. They are
however subject to copyright, and thus influence the distribution terms
of the source packages.

Most of the meson.build files would not meet the threshold of
originality criteria required for copyright protection. Some of the more
complex meson.build files may be eligible for copyright protection. To
avoid any ambiguity and uncertainty, state our intent to not assert
copyrights on the build system files by putting them in the public
domain with the CC0-1.0 license.
